Bristol neurophysio works closely with both Ape Action Africa and In Defense of Animals Africa. Kirsty Godwin-Pearson provides her specialist skills in neurophysiotherapy free of charge to help rehabilitate gorillas, chimpanzees and other primates with neurological problems.
Both charities are based in Cameroon, West Africa where gorillas and other primates are threatened by logging and the bushmeat trade. Many animals sustain neurological injuries as a direct consequence of bullet wounds and acquired meningitis.
As part of the programme, we have also provided free neurophysiotherapy to members of the local human communities.
